The moment the Safari had released news that there were more of… William’s brethren running around the place, Alexei knew he was in for it.[break][break]

What also caught his attention was that the subject of his hunts was also in the area, and his trips to the place he had been frequenting were all for naught! Which was honestly such an exasperation…[break][break]

But anyway, quick as a flash he’d flown out of Fortree for the day, booking a free day for himself in the Safari. He knew he was after several specific somethings, and now that they had shown up in the Safari, it was time to roll.[break][break]

Quickly handing over the money, he couldn’t help but wiggle in excitement as the four Safari Balls were rolled his way, before going through security check.[break][break]

Eventually, he was allowed clearance into the area—why did he have a feeling there would be someone else who would come by the Safari and chase down all the canines he could possibly find?![break][break]

It was inevitable!

He was pretty sure that Kyle was somewhere in the area. While not exactly meeting the other man face to face, he knew the other would come running at the sight of Poochyena in the Safari.[break][break]

I mean, he has what… more than six? Last I counted he had like… damn, he really is a Dog Boy, he thought with a chuckle as he made his way through the undergrowth. Keeping his eyes peeled for the sight of a particular round Pokémon, or at least the avian he was chasing after, he was wading through the wooded areas in search of them.[break][break]

While he also knew that there was a Growlithe on the list, the truth of the matter was that he wanted to get all four of his targets and make a break out of the place.[break][break]

…and then come back again.[break][break]

For even more Wooloo.[break][break]

Because he knew how much of a herd animal William was—maybe having some other Wooloo around the troublemaker of a fluff ball would help him fit in? His previous herd had rejected him, which made Alexei sad.[break][break]

It was now Alexei’s mission to make the Wooloo happy as much as possible—and he was going to do that by surrounding him with so many more of the sheep Pokémon![break][break]

Of course, a rampaging noise caught his attention, and he barely leapt out of the way to see an afro-headed Bouffalant charging through the area.[break][break]

…nope. Definitely not!

Barely after he’d managed to get away from the rampaging afro-bull, Alexei continued to search through the undergrowth.[break][break]

…or maybe he was searching through the wrong area?[break][break]

Remembering that Wooloo had a tendency to stick to open spaces and prance around grassy fields, he then diverted his tracks and made headway towards the flatland area of the Safari, where he knew there were bound to be Pokémon grazing so boldly out in the open, minding their own business.[break][break]

At least, that was until they were chased around by human beings who wanted to catch them for themselves![break][break]

He was shoving overhanging vines out of the way, forcing his way through the thick undergrowth—he misses the Riolu playing in a clearing, tossing a Berry between its paws.[break][break]

Clearly, his attention was elsewhere.

The loud barking noise caught his attention.[break][break]

Turning his head around so fast he was in actual danger of cricking his neck, he caught sight of a flash of orange and red running through the last of the undergrowth before it burst out onto the plan, and that’s when he saw what it was.[break][break]

If Kyle had a ‘hallelujah’ moment when it came to dogs in general, Alexei had the rough equivalent of an ‘oh shit, I want it right now!’ montage as the Growlithe began growling at him, barking before literally throwing himself at the human in a Flare Blitz attack.[break][break]

“Whoa, hey now, what are you—“ he began before he saw the dog that was literally on fire headed right at him. “YIKES!” he screeched, barely diving out of the way. The flames were ridiculously close though, and he thought he could smell the stench of burned hair as the Growlithe thudded into a tree behind him. Turning around on the spot, he sent out a Pokéball at random—and was relieved that it transformed into his Lucario, Vincent.[break][break]

“Snipe it, quickly!” he began, knowing that the Lucario knew exactly what he meant. As the Growlithe came in for another Flare Blitz attack, the Lucario prepared and lobbed an Aura Sphere attack at the incoming canine Pokémon, watching as the fiery force slammed into the ball of auric energy and cringing.[break][break]

Oof, that’s going to hurt a while, he thought as the Growlithe fell to the ground with a thud—but wasn’t giving up yet! Charging forward with an Agility, the Fire-type then chained into a Fire Fang attack, flaming maw ready to bite the shit out of the Lucario. The dual-type was prepared, though.[break][break]

Preparing a Counter right at the moment of impact, the Lucario took the force of the flaming fangs—before seemingly pushing it off in a defensive gesture. The Counter had worked, rebounding the force of the attack on the Growlithe, who let out a yelp as the doubled power hit it in the face.[break][break]

“Finish it, knock it out!” he added, watching as the Lucario closed the gap and aimed a one-two Force Palm strike on the Growlithe, catching it as it staggered to get up before it collapsed again.[break][break]

Sticking his tongue out the side of his mouth, he threw a Safari Ball and hoped for the best.

“Vince, can you scout ahead and let me know if you find what we’re looking for? If you see anyone that looks like William… oh, come on, don’t give me that look!”[break][break]

Alexei sighed, because his Lucario was making a face at the mention of the Wooloo’s name. Why was it so upset at the Wooloo, anyway? “What did Will do to you? He’s just being cute!” he asked with a sigh, shaking his head as his Lucario gave him the equivalent of a dirty glare. As he walked over to retrieve the Safari Ball, a sudden blast of nature energy almost knocked him over.[break][break]

“Hey! What the hell?!” he yelped, looking around and trying to find the culprit—to nobody’s surprise, it was a Treecko, leering at them. “Well that’s not nice,” he admonished the Treecko, who continued throwing Energy Balls at them. Just as the Lucario was about to step in to handle the problem, he shook his head.[break][break]

“No, wait, I have a better idea.”[break][break]

With a bit of a grin, he backed away and threw a certain containment unit forward, clapping his hands to his ears as the Salamence from within burst forth from the red stream of light, its Intimidate ability kicking in upon emerging.[break][break]

“Gabe? Deal with that Treecko, will you?” he asked, watching as the Salamence turned to face him, before giving a malicious cackle of glee. Hoo boy the Treecko was in for it now.[break][break]

The draconid let loose with a burst of Flamethrower, catching the incoming Energy Ball before it could knock the Salamence out of the sky. Seeing that the flames were clearly outmatching it, the Treecko then broke into a run—only for it to be cut off by another wall of flames.[break][break]

Clearly the Salamence had other ideas.[break][break]

After a valiant effort of lobbing several more Energy Ball attacks at the Salamence, the Treecko gave up, mostly due to the concentrated Flamethrower burst attacks cornering and trapping him. A red beam of light saved him from being roasted alive, as Alexei threw the second Safari Ball…

Now that the Grass-type had been caught within the Safari Ball, it was spared from the Salamence’s wrath—at least for now. He knew how much of a hothead Gabriel was, so before the draconid could shoot off into the skies and fly, he recalled the Pokémon.[break][break]

Was he going to be leaving the Safari Zone disappointed? He hoped not.[break][break]

Sighing, he then made to turn around and head back into the undergrowth when a soft thudding noise hit his foot. Looking down, he noticed that there’s a black something that was now wiggling its feet, trying to get upright. Wait, something black?[break][break]

Alexei did a double-take before squinting at the thing, bleating and wiggling its white feet in an attempt to get up. Wait a second—[break][break]

“Don’t tell me you’re lost?” he asked the round object that let out a familiar bleating noise before wiggling its feet uselessly in the air. The moment he heard the bleating noise, he knew—he had heard this once before.[break][break]

You’re a Wooloo, but why is your fur… dirty? He thought, crouching down to pick up the little fluffer and help turn it over. To his surprise, the Wooloo’s face was white, and not the standard black.[break][break]

Black fur… white face, white legs…[break][break]

Did he just…?![break][break]

“Are you alone?” he dared ask, before getting an affectionate finger nip in answer as he held the little fluffer with both his hands. “They left you?”[break][break]

Another affirmative bleat. Or what he thinks is affirmative.[break][break]

“You… I have someone who you can be friends with,” he muttered, his mind flashing back to William, doing who-knew-what back in Fortree, jaunty little crown on his forehead. “Do you want to meet him?”[break][break]

Another affectionate bleating noise. Was this Wooloo dead-set on coming with him?

Now that he had a serial ‘bleater’ riding in his hands, he wondered if it was going to be a good idea to keep the weirdly-colored Wooloo out of its Safari Ball. Just as he was about to tap one of the two remaining Balls on its black-colored fur, it let out a warning bleat before… rolling away.[break][break]

What the hell?![break][break]

Oh, right, they roll away when they see something they don’t like… he thought, scratching his forehead as he made to chase the Wooloo down. The Rookidee then followed after the human as well, slightly curious at what he was going to do when he finally caught up with the odd-colored Wooloo.[break][break]

Eventually Alexei had managed to locate the odd fluffball, who had smacked itself into a tree and was now seeing stars spinning in its field of vision. “Tsk, you’re just like William,” he said with a hint of amusement, tapping the other Safari Ball on its snout before it decided to make a break for it.[break][break]

This then left him to deal with the cawing noise he heard a few seconds later that had literally thrown itself at him in a display of anger—a Fury Attack![break][break]

“WHOA!” he all but screeched as he ducked, and the Rookidee ended up colliding with the tree trunk instead. Reaching into his shirt and blowing on the thin whistle, he heard a loud roar ripping through the skies as the Salamence descended once more, breathing another stream of flames at the weird orb.[break][break]

“Gods, take it down!” he shouted, rolling out of the way as the Rookidee continued to attack the Salamence furiously. Of course, size was taken into consideration here, and one steely Intimidating glare later, the weird avian backed down. Not to be deterred, the Salamence summoned crackling energy to his maw, and opened his mouth wide just as the Rookidee launched itself at the Salamence once more, eager to smack it with a Drill Peck.[break][break]

But the Thunder Fang that crunched down on the avian said otherwise. A loud screeching noise came from the Rookidee, and the Salamence bit down on it again with another show of Thunder Fang.[break][break]

That was more than enough to stun it, and as the Salamence spat it down and out of his mouth, Alexei quickly flung the last Safari Ball at it…
